Terrain

This volcanic reef near the coast extends to the water's surface. Waves break on top of the reef top, so anchoring is done on the second reef to the north to avoid endangering the boat. The main reef resembles Swiss cheese. It is interspersed with several caves, all of which are accessible for diving. One of the cave passages is suitable for beginners. The large cave, however, can only be accessed by experienced divers. The bottom of this cave is sandy, so it is important to dive with good buoyancy. At the entrance, the cave is about 5m wide and has a shallow depth of about 1.5m. Further in, the passage narrows to a width of just 1.5m, but the height increases to about 4m. In this area, a large ray often lies in the passage. If it is sleeping there, the dive group must turn around and return to the entrance. Diving over a large ray in its sleeping cave is not recommended.

Once you pass the narrow passage, you enter a larger cavern with a hole at the top that lets in light. This hole is not suitable as an exit because it is far too narrow. The exit is at the very bottom if you turn left in the cavern.

We like to use this dive site for PADI Advanced courses for candidates interested in cave diving, and for PADI Cavern Diver training.

The boat ride to this dive site is only 15 minutes. Because this reef is very shallow, even beginners with an Open Water license can dive here, of course without completing the cave passage.
